Milicent’s Story

Milicent is a cervical cancer survivor from Kenya. Almost all cervical cancer cases are caused by HPV – the human papillomavirus. Here Milicent shares her journey, from the shock of diagnosis, to treatment and recovery. Despite challenges accessing a diagnosis and treatment, Milicent is now well. Millicent’s daughter was also the first girl in Kenya to receive the HPV vaccine and won’t have to worry about HPV related cancer in future. Vaccination prevents HPV. Cervical screening for HPV and for cell changes that could develop into cancer, can reduce the risk of developing cervical cancer.
